Drawing upon 20 years of being a Headteacher, Principal and Executive Principal, I share with you my story of how focusing on belonging, dignity and fulfilment can bring about transformational success.
Leaders have a tremendous power to create the climate in which they operate. Authentic leaders constantly shine a light on the dignity, worth and value of everyone they lead.
Fulfilment is about being the very best we can be and challenging ourselves on where we set the bar. Understanding that we may not be able to make the impossible happen, but that we can make what seems impossible to us happen.
As well as providing inspiration and motivation for your event, I also like to explore the lighter side of leadership as well as bringing to life some of the colourful characters in the communities I worked in.
Imagine being given the job of closing two greatly loved schools and hoping everyone will love - and play nicely together in - the brand new £50 million 'super school' you were setting up to replace them.
Well a few years ago, that was my reality in South Yorkshire. 2300 students - honestly if I’d have thought about it enough, I would’ve frightened myself to death.
Authenic leaders create a culture where people catch themselves wanting to belong, because a strong sense of belonging fans the flames of dignity and gives birth to fulfilment.
Only then can the perfect balance of empowerment and accountability work its magic.
The shiny new school may well meet the physical needs of the community, but we must understand the importance of meeting people’s psychological and self-fulfilment needs: namely Belonging, Dignity and Fulfilment - it’s these that lead to Transformational Success and being the very BEST that we can be.

About Nick
With 20 years experience as Headteacher, Principal and Executive Principal in secondary schools, I successfully ran one of the biggest schools in the country.
Receiving the Queens Award for Enterprise Promotion highlighted just how much business and schools can learn from each other.
I have also been an ambassador for The Youth Sports Trust, The Women’s FA and the Career and Enterprise Company.
